Campground Recap (“Recap,” “we,” “us”) is a family camp log. This page explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. It is written for campers and families who use the product. It is not legal advice.
1. What this covers
This policy applies to campgroundrecap.com and the Recap web app (including staging when you use it). It does not cover third-party campground booking sites, maps, or other services you open from Recap.
2. Information we collect
Account
When you create or use an account we store information you give us, such as:
- Email address
- Sign-in credentials (we store a secure password hash, not your plain password)
- Display name (when you set it)
- Account and team / family membership settings
Your camp log
Depending on what you use, we store:
- Visits and recaps (dates, parks, sites, notes, and related journal content)
- Photos and other media you upload to your journal (stored privately; not published as a public feed)
- Park feedback you submit (star rating, optional title, story, and whether to show your display name or appear as Anonymous)
- Favorites, notes, and similar marks you save on parks or sites
- Messages you send in Camper Chat (if you use that feature)
Information from your use of the service
We automatically receive technical data needed to run the app, such as:
- Sign-in session cookies or tokens
- Approximate device / browser information and IP address in server logs
- Basic request logs for security, debugging, and reliability
Park catalog data
Campground and campsite details (maps, amenities, facility photos from official sources, and similar catalog content) are product data, not your personal journal. They are shown to help you plan and remember stays.
Information you send us directly
If you use Comment / suggest (or email us), we receive whatever you include in that message (and any page or park context attached to it). That intake is private to the Recap operators; it is not posted as a public review.
3. How we use information
We use personal information to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve Recap
- Authenticate you and keep your account secure
- Show your visits, recaps, photos, and feedback to you (and to teammates you invite, when team features apply)
- Show park feedback you choose to share (with your display name or as Anonymous)
- Respond to support, comments, and problem reports
- Protect the service against abuse and outages
- Comply with law when required
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your journal photos or private recaps for advertising.
4. When information is visible to others
- Your journal / visits / photos: Intended for you and members of your Recap team or family account. They are not a public social feed.
- Park Feedback: Reviews on a park’s Feedback tab can be seen by other signed-in campers. You choose whether your display name appears or the review shows as Anonymous. Your sign-in details are never used as the byline.
- Operators: People who run Recap may access account and content data as needed to operate support, security, and the product.
5. Service providers
We use trusted processors to host and run Recap. Today that includes providers for:
- Web hosting and delivery
- Application / database hosting
- Private object storage for journal media and related files
They process data only to provide those services to us, under their own security practices and our configuration.
6. Cookies and sign-in
We use cookies or similar storage for signed-in sessions and staging access controls. These are needed for the app to work. Clearing cookies signs you out.
7. Retention
We keep account and camp-log data while your account is active and as needed to provide the service. Server logs are kept for a limited operational period. If you ask us to delete your account or specific content, we will remove what we can from active systems within a reasonable time, except where we must retain records for security, dispute, or legal reasons.
8. Your choices
You can:
- Update display name and profile details in Account
- Edit or delete your own park feedback
- Choose Anonymous instead of showing your display name on feedback
- Remove or change journal content you control (including deleting a visit where that feature is available)
- Sign out to end a session
- Email us to request account closure or a copy of personal data we hold about you
9. Children and families
Recap is built as a family camp log. Accounts are meant for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 for their own accounts. Parents and guardians are responsible for what family members add under a household or team account.
10. Security
We use industry-standard measures such as encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and access controls on private media storage. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; please use a strong unique password and protect your sign-in.
11. Changes
If we change this policy in a material way, we will update the effective date on this page. Continued use of Recap after an update means you accept the revised policy.
